| | Diva Cup - This post is for women, especially people who like to go bare! Guys, if period-chat makes you uncomfortable, then keep reading ;)
Well I came across just a little menstruation (Yeah it is like 6th grade health class all over again) merchandise awhile back called the Diva Cup. I was definitely intrigued to attempt it, and when I saw it on the shelf in my own local health food store, I snatched it up! The Diva Cup is a silicone-based menstrual cup which is inserted into the vagina just like a tampon. Nonetheless, rather than consuming everything, it is all collected in the cup. It's possible for you to wear it for up to 12 hours at a time (as opposed to altering a tampon every few hours), and it doesn't leak! (Given it's properly fit, and it might take some practice.)
Diva Cup and its carrying case
Would you dread the "ruby wave" crashing your nakation? I understand many girls do, particularly those new to naturism. Well I was excited to review this on my site because that is fantastic for nudist women! It is so discrete, you no longer have to be concerned about an awkward, observable tampon string. Women, this really is a better way to love going completely unclothed during your period and be more relaxed and comfortable doing so. It took me a couple of days to get used to it, but the cup is actually very user friendly. I recall hearing about this type of product a long time ago, believing it seemed sloppy and a little gross, but it's not. Plus it's so much more convenient than tampons. (Ever been to Sandy Hook unclothed beach and had to trip back and forth to the bathroom a mile away?) Additionally, it might take a little bit of training, but it really will not leak when it is properly inserted.
The other advantages of using the Diva Cup instead of tampons and sanitary napkins are that it's eco-friendly and saves a lot of cash. http://www.1upsoftware.com/Redirect.asp?UID=2752764&SubSectionID=13&AdArrayID=4&AdPosition=1&Linkurl=https://familynudism.club did some computations, estimating that the typical woman will use 10,000 tampons and sanitary napkins in her life. That is a lot of resulting waste and money. Additionally they quote some research: "More than 170,000 tampon applicators were collected along U.S. coastal areas between 1998 and 1999." There is so much plastic and waste that washes up on beaches, and I'd prefer not to add my shed tampon applicators to it. Ick! If properly cared for, the Diva Cup will survive for 1 year and costs around $30 to $40, making it more cost effective than tampons/pads bought in per year. (I found mine for $33.)
The drawbacks? For one, I was worried by the long list of soaps that you simply shouldn't use to clean it, aka every type of soap I had at home. But really any light, unscented soap should be good, or you are able to get the Diva Wash, specially made for this. Another issue is if you wind up trying to take it outside and wash it privately in a public bathroom. Nobody desires to take that up to the sink. The solution is easy however: empty it into the toilet, clean it away with some tissue, and great to go until you get home.
